Kish STEM students benefit from ‘Smitty’ Assistantship
Three Kishwaukee College students participated in science-based learning opportunities during the 2024-2025 school year thanks to the Robert L. “Smitty” Smith Assistantship.

If the operational status of the College changes in the event of a closure, delayed start or other unforeseen circumstance, the College will communicate the decision as soon as possible.
The College uses multiple communication channels to inform the campus community. Currently enrolled students, faculty and staff will be notified of operational changes via text message and email through the College's Mass Notification System. Road conditions can be monitored through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Kishwaukee College has partnered with Perry Weather, a severe weather detection company providing real-time weather information and emergency notifications for lightning detection.
The outdoor lightning system and weather station are located on top of the scoreboard at the softball fields. The system's audible alert can be heard from the College’s athletic fields, truck yard and other outside areas on campus.
The system alerts when lightning has been detected within a 10-mile radius of the Kishwaukee College campus.
