CLEP exams let you earn college credit for knowledge you already have—saving time and tuition while accelerating your path to a degree.
Appointments are required and need to be made at least two weeks in advance. Call Testing Services at 815-825-9841 or stop by Testing Services in person to reserve a seat.
What Is CLEP?
The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) allows students to earn college credit by passing subject-area exams.

Register & Schedule
CLEP exams require advance registration and an appointment through Testing Services.
- Create an account at collegeboard.org/clep
- Select your CLEP exam and complete payment
- Print your registration ticket (valid for 6 months)
- Contact Testing Services to reserve a testing seat
- Call 815-825-9841 or visit in person
- Bring your registration ticket on exam day
Important notes:
- Appointments required at least two weeks notice
- Maximum of two exams per day
- $20 proctor fee paid at Kish on test day
On Test Day
- Arrive 15 minutes early
- Bring:
- Government-issued photo ID
- CLEP registration ticket
- Pay $20 proctor fee at the Business Office (C2140)
- Bring proof of payment to Testing Services
Prepare for the Exam
- Review CLEP exam descriptions on College Board
- Purchase CLEP study guides online or from major bookstores
- Download individual exam study guides for $10 each
- Academic advisors can help determine how CLEP credit applies to your degree or transfer plans
Military & Veterans
Eligible military service members and civilian employees may receive CLEP exam funding through DANTES.
