Celebration of Black History Month 2025

Kishwaukee College is proud to celebrate Black History Month with a variety of events honoring Black culture, history, and achievements. From thought-provoking discussions to creative activities and music-filled celebrations, the campus community is invited to come together in recognition and celebration throughout February.

 
Tuesday, Feb. 4th | Student Lounge | 11 AM - 1 PM
Join the Black Student Union for a dynamic discussion featuring Black entrepreneurs and professionals sharing insights on their journeys, challenges, and successes. Celebrate the spirit of Black enterprise and gain valuable advice for your own career aspirations.
 
Tuesday, Feb. 11th | Quiet Dining | 12:30 PM - 2 PM
Express your creativity by making collages inspired by Black history and culture. All materials will be provided for this hands-on activity, open to all skill levels.
 
Thursday, Feb. 13th | Quiet Dining | 11 AM - 1 PM
Sing your heart out in celebration of Black music and culture at this lively karaoke session. Join us in the Student Lounge for good vibes, great music, and community connection.

Equity at Kish

Kishwaukee College’s values of equity and support show our commitment to welcoming and valuing all learners and members of the Kish community. We believe everyone deserves an affordable, quality education, and any barriers or completion gaps must be addressed. In the spring of 2019, Kish joined the Illinois Equity in Attainment Initiative (ILEA), the signature initiative of the Partnership for College Completion (PCC). Along with 27 other colleges and universities, Kish committed to the goal of eliminating the achievement gap for students of color and low-income students. Through these efforts, Kish was recognized with the 2022 Equity and Diversity Award by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA).

Kish continues the great work to reduce barriers and close achievement gaps. We continue to execute our Equity Plan and implement the best strategies to support all students who choose Kish. You can find more of our current data and plans in the following:
