Psychology Program Information

Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. The goals of psychology include the description, understanding, prediction and modification of behavior.

The majority of students taking psychology courses at Kishwaukee College do so because a background in psychology is a very useful supplement to study in their major field or discipline. Others see an opportunity for personal growth and development.

Students planning to obtain a bachelor’s degree with a major in psychology can expect to receive a strong foundation in the basic principles of psychology at Kishwaukee College and then transfer to a four-year college or university where upper-level psychology courses will be taught in the style and tradition of that particular institution. Psychology majors with a bachelor’s degree may find employment in a wide range of settings. To be considered a psychologist, however, additional work at the graduate level is usually required. For more information regarding careers in psychology, please visit the American Psychological Association.
