Dear Kish Community,
The recent and tragic death of George Floyd, along with others who have recently suffered
unconscionable deaths, have brought to light the deeply embedded systemic racism and
violence that still plagues our nation. Questions of safety and justice come to mind.
Kishwaukee College has been, and continues to be, committed to creating and maintaining
an environment of inclusion, diversity and equity for all. In the spring of 2019,
the College joined a statewide initiative to demonstrate our commitment to diversity.
The Partnership for College Completion focuses on eliminating the achievement gap
for students of color and low-income students. We created an Equity Statement through
campus-wide input reflecting our mission to support our diverse College community:
We are committed to a sustainable culture of equity, focused on respect and fairness,
in all aspects of the Kishwaukee College experience.
As an institution of higher education, we stand on the values of inclusion and accessibility. We strive to ensure all learners know they are welcome and valued members of the Kish
community.
What is happening in the world is troubling. It is not what we stand for as an institution.
The killings, the protests and the violence, along with the ongoing pandemic, have
generated fear and uncertainty for many of us. It is our hope that we continue to
have productive conversations in order to create positive, transformative change for
a future where all people are valued and respected. Stay safe.
Sincerely,
Dr. Laurie Borowicz
