Perla Gonzalez, a Kishwaukee College nursing student, was named the recipient of a
$1,000 Illinois Community College Faculty Association (ICCFA) Student Scholarship.
She was recognized with the award at the ICCFA conference luncheon on Nov. 10 in Bloomington.
Gonzalez was one of eight state-wide recipients of an ICCFA Student Scholarship for
the 2023-2024 academic year. The application considered academic achievement, community
service, campus activities, personal goals and more.
“Perla's story is quite impressive and shows her dedication to community service and
academics. She began her volunteer activities at the age of 12 and continues to serve
through projects in her community and on campus,” said Carla Presnell, ICCFA Scholarship
Committee Chair.
Gonzalez, a graduate of Hiawatha High School, is in her second year of the Registered
Nursing program. After completing the nursing program, she plans to work as a registered
nurse and continue her education to become a nurse practitioner.
“This scholarship extends beyond mere financial assistance. It serves as a source
of motivation, reinforcing my commitment to further my education. Knowing that there
are individuals who believe in and support my academic endeavors inspires me to continue
in the pursuit of my educational goals,” Gonzalez said.
At Kish, Gonzalez is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and
the Student Government Association. She also serves as the Student Trustee on the
Kishwaukee College Board of Trustees and is employed as a student worker in Kish’s
Early Learning Center.
“We are so proud to see our students recognized at the statewide level. Perla’s hard
work and dedication make her a deserving choice for this scholarship,” said Dr. Laurie
Borowicz, President of Kishwaukee College.
