Kishwaukee College recognized outgoing Board member Linda Mason at Tuesday night’s
Board of Trustees meeting. Mason was commended for her dedication to the College following
26 years of service on the Board.
Mason received a bronze plaque in recognition of her service, initially joining the
Board in 1997.
“Servings as a trustee is a substantial commitment, requiring the ability to represent
and advocate for an entire community. Linda’s work was exceptional for our students
and our constituents. On behalf of the Board, I thank her for her service to the Kishwaukee
College community,” said Bob Johnson, Chair of the Board of Trustees.
During her tenure, Mason has helped guide Kish through significant changes and events,
including updates and overhauls to educational programs, major renovations and additions
to the campus buildings, and four different College Presidents.
“I am proud that Kishwaukee College continues to offer quality education at an affordable
price. We have always tried to keep in mind our relationship with the taxpayers,”
Mason said.
One of the most rewarding aspects of being a Trustee for Mason was attending the College’s
commencement ceremonies and handing out diplomas and certificates.
“It gives us a real feeling of satisfaction knowing such a wide variety of people
can go to Kish and follow through on their goals,” Mason said. “It all comes back
to teaching our students and helping them earn a degree or discover their career.”
Mason commended the collaborative efforts of College leadership, faculty and staff
through major events such as the additions of the Student Center and Conference Center
and the COVID-19 pandemic when the College shifted to online learning. She said she
will miss working with the many high-character individuals she has met throughout
her years on the Board.
“Kishwaukee College has been fortunate to have the vision and leadership provided
by Linda Mason on the Board of Trustees for the past 26 years,” said Dr. Laurie Borowicz,
President of Kishwaukee College. “Her guidance and dedication to our students and
the institution will be missed. We greatly appreciate and thank her for her many contributions.”
Mason did not seek reelection in the recent April consolidated election. Tonda Bruch
of Kirkland was elected to fill the vacancy and will be officially seated on the Board
during a special reorganizational meeting on April 25.
