Kishwaukee College will host a Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 am Thursday, Nov. 9, in
the Student Center. The ceremony is free and open to the public. Refreshments will
be provided for all guests during and after the ceremony.
Delaney Hood, Accommodations Specialist, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies, and
John Gruben, Commander of the Rochelle American Legion Post 403 and Kish Manufacturing
Technology Adjunct Instructor, will head the MIA/POW table. Highlights of the event
include a welcome by Dr. Laurie Borowicz, President of Kishwaukee College; the national
anthem, performed by Rochelle High School junior Luke Smarto; the Pledge of Allegiance
led by Kim Ahlert, Marine veteran and Kish Assistant Professor of Physics; recognition
of military members and a moment of silence; a musical performance by the DeKalb High
School Chamber Orchestra; guest speaker Steve Korth, Army veteran and Kish alumnus;
and guest speaker Cohen Barnes, Army veteran, Mayor of DeKalb and Kish alumnus.
Guests should enter through Door 6, the Student Center entrance. The event will be
recorded and livestreamed on Kish’s social media platforms.
The Veterans Day ceremony is sponsored by the Kishwaukee College Veterans Advocacy
Committee.
