November marks Native American Heritage Month and Transgender Awareness Week. Student Involvement at Kish will present a documentary about Sage Chanell, a “two-spirit” transgender Native American woman. The term “Two-Spirit” is a neo-traditional movement with the goal being to reclaim the ideas and tradition that had historically valued individuals who were believed to be born with both male and female spirits.
The documentary is available on YouTube at https://youtu.be/uNg4iDp7DXg and students and members of the community are invited to watch it at their convenience. It has no cost and no expiration date.
Along with the “Two-Spirit” documentary, Student Involvement is hosting a Transgender Awareness trivia night.
A Frances Loubere Ally Activist Scholarship Fundraiser Trivia Night will be 6-8 pm Thursday, Nov. 19 via Zoom. The event, presented by the Gender and Sexuality Diversity Committee at Kish, costs $20 per team and teams can have 2-4 members. To register, contact akost@kish.edu or 815-825-9472.
