The Kishwaukee College Tutoring Services tutor training program received the College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC): Level 1. The CRLA International Tutor Training Program Certification has rigorous standards to ensure tutor training programs develop highly-skilled tutors to best support students.
Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Tutoring Services, Ann Mueller, developed the Tutoring Services training modules in alignment with CRLA standards. The modules focus on best practices in communication, critical thinking, equity, learning styles, conflict resolution, goal setting and study skills. Mueller plans to seek additional levels of ITTPC certification for Kish in the future.
“We are excited about earning the CRLA tutor training certification! This training is designed to meet an accepted set of standards that support best practices in tutoring to ensure the very best services for our students,” Mueller said.
Kish’s Tutoring Services can now issue Level 1 certificates to tutors completing the training program. Peer tutors who participate in the certified training process at Kish can also receive individual certificates. The training program includes 10 hours of training per year in pertinent topics for effective tutoring as well as regular observations and evaluations each semester.
