Doula-Childbirth Assistant Workshop

This DONA International approved “birth doula” workshop that will introduce participants to the role of the “birth doula”.  A birth doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and shortly after childbirth to help her achieve the healthiest, most satisfying experience possible. DONA International has been training professional doulas for 25 years.

The 3-day workshop will cover: Scope of Practice & Code of Ethics, Marketing & Finding clients, Prenatal appointments, Emotional side of birth/hormones, Comfort measures, Interventions, Difficult births, Postpartum appointment, Breastfeeding.  In addition, the workshop will also include the “Introduction to Childbirth” training that is typically offered as a separate class.

Tammy Ryan, the Doula workshop instructor, has been attending births since 2002 and is a birth doula trainer for DONA International, childbirth educator, midwifery assistant and one of six trainers world-wide for Spinning Babies. In addition to the U.S., Tammy has provided lifesaving childbirth training internationally in many countries including:  Dominican Republic, Congo, Haiti, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Korea, and Kenya.
