Kishwaukee College hosted Deputy Gov. for Education Martin V. Torres, the Illinois State Attainment Working Group, and 75 educators, business and economic development leaders for a regional engagement session as Kish collaborates with state officials to meet current workforce and training needs in higher education.
The State Attainment Working Group is a task force Gov. J.B. Pritzker created in March 2026 to evaluate Illinois’ workforce and training needs, meet future labor market demand, strengthen economic mobility and support long-term economic growth. Kishwaukee College hosted one of ten regional stakeholder engagement meetings for the state’s Northern Stateline Region.
“Kishwaukee College is honored to host Deputy Gov. Torres, Illinois Community College Board Director Brian Durham and the Illinois State Attainment Working Group to build a better future for our communities and the state of Illinois. The purpose of this task force directly aligns with our College goals to meet local workforce demands and adapt to changing student and community needs,” said Dr. Laurie Borowicz, President of Kishwaukee College.
Torres was appointed as Deputy Governor of Education in November 2021. Torres advises on and oversees Illinois’ education policies and funding, with a strong focus on uplifting the state’s Latino community. Kishwaukee College was designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution in 2024.
