The Kishwaukee College Foundation launched a $180,000 fundraising campaign to support
four initiatives at the College. The initiatives focus on a holistic student experience
and include new equipment for the Wellness Center, technology and equipment to support
expanded flex classrooms, sunshades for the Early Learning Center, and the five-foot
Kish letters.
Physical health is linked to overall mental health and student success in college.
At Kish, the equipment in the Wellness Center is almost 20 years old and in need of
replacement. The Wellness Center supports the College’s 150 student-athletes in their
training and is the current classroom for PE-140 Fitness Training. In addition, all
students are able to use the facilities at no cost. Last year, the Wellness Center
had approximately 4,000 student visits.
Enrollment at Kish is up 10.5% for the 2023-2024 academic year, with students enrolling
in approximately 50% fully face-to-face courses and 50% hybrid or online. Flex classrooms
allow instructors to teach courses in person while simultaneously delivering instruction
to students in person and online. The innovative classroom setting allows students
to choose the delivery format that best suits their schedule and learning needs on
any given day. The College currently has two classrooms. The goal is to support three
additional classrooms.
In 2021, the Early Learning Center (ELC) was relocated to Kish's Campus Operations
Building to provide a safer structural building for the program. Along with the relocation
of the ELC, a new outdoor playground was installed. However, the new playground area
does not provide natural shade over the equipment or play areas. For the Fall 2023
semester, the ELC has 43 children enrolled, of which 13 are children of currently
enrolled students.
The five-foot KISH letters will be used for commencement and other special events
on campus. The letters will create a visual element and unique photo backdrop throughout
the academic year.
Kishwaukee College nursing students were honored during a pinning ceremony on Wednesday, May 15, at the College. Kish recognized 23 students for completing the Registered Nursing program and presented each graduate with a special pin before family and friends during the ceremony.
Kishwaukee College hired Matt Long as the next head coach for the Men’s Basketball team. Long will take over the role in Spring 2024 as the 11th head coach in program history.
